OL-RJ Hughes signs for 2021

The Erie Express are pleased to announce the signing of OL-RJ Hughes (Edinboro University) for the 2021 season. RJ begins his first season with the Express and will look to lock down a starting spot on the offensive or defensive line. 

Hughes was a 4 year starter at Edinboro University at offensive guard where he was named team captain and offensive line MVP. RJ graduated with a degree in Health and Phys Ed. with a minor in Athletic Coaching. RJ has also coached at Edinboro University.

"RJ is a guy that has been on our radar for quite some time so I cannot begin to tell you how thrilled we are to have him in an Express uniform. He was red shirted at Edinboro then started the next 4 years. That does not happen by accident. We know he has been well coached, every player we have ever signed from Edinboro has proven that. He has lost some weight so he will be much quicker and with his proven experience we know he will be a tremendous force in the GDFL this season. We are blessed to have him on board and are expecting great things from him in 2021"-Director of Operations Paul Pennington. 

2013 

Redshirted.

2014 

Played in eight games, with seven starts. 

Versatile lineman who started four games at right tackle, two at left guard, and one at left tackle. 

Also made first career start at left guard against Carson-Newman. 

2015 

Appeared in eight games, with six starts. Started the first five games at LG and the last game of the year at RG. 

2016 

Started all 11 games at left guard. 

2017 

Started all 11 games his redshirt Senior year.
