Erie Express sign LB-Youssef Barakat for 2021

The Erie Express are pleased to announce the signing of LB-Youssef Barakat (Akron University) for the 2021 season. Youssef begins his first season with the Express and will compete for a spot in the linebacker rotation and on special teams.

Barakat is a graduate of St. Vincent St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio. A two year letter winner and starter for the Fighting Irish, Youssef played a major role in their winning back to back state championships (2012 and 2013). 

Youssef played his college football at Akron University. As a redshirt Freshman he was named Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year. Barakat made his debut against VMI and was part of the 2015 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl win (23-21) over the Utah State Aggies. An injury cut his collegiate playing career short but he is now healthy again and ready to get back into the game. 

Youssef was a Deans List student and graduated from Akron University with a degree in Political Science with a minor in Criminal Justice.

Depth at the linebacker position is a concern for us and we feel he will be a great addition to our team. Youssef clearly knows what it takes to win a championship having done so two times.
