DL-Zsolt Bonyai back for 2023

The Erie Express are happy to announce the return of DL-Zsolt Bonyai (Erie East, HS) for the 2023 season. Zsolt begins his third season with the Express and returns as one of our starters on special teams.

This past season season we were crowned USA Bowl Summer Division National Champions, won our Division in the GDFL for the fourth year in a row and qualified for the GDFL National Playoffs for the seventh year in a row. In January of 2023 we headed to Daytona Beach, FL to face the Minneapolis Warriors in the USA Bowl Summer Division National Championship Game. (17-20 loss) The above mentioned team accolades, Zsolt had a direct hand in making possible.

Zsolt played a major role in our finishing the 2021 season a perfect 11-0 and as GDFL National Champions. 

Bonyai was a three sport athlete for the Erie High School Warriors competing in football, track and cross country. After graduation Zsolt served his country for 6 years as a member of the US Army and is an Iraq war veteran.

He fought through a nagging injury last season but appears to be healed and ready to go this year.
